Pie Cookoff

This contest is open to bakers of all ages! – Any pie, from single crust to double crust, all are welcome!

Pies must be entered in the name of the person who made it. Contestant may enter up to two pies. Each Pie must be made from scratch and based in a 9” – 10” pie plate/pan. Each pie must include a cover. You may not use pre-made store-bought crust.

Bakers can enter the contest by registering below and submitting the nonrefundable entry fee of $15 for a single pie and $23 for two pies. Bring your pie to the contest site, at the museum, between 12:00pm and 1:00pm on May 11, 2019. At this time your pie will be given an entry number, maintaining confidentiality of the makers.

A copy of your pie recipe, on a 3x5 card or 8x11 paper, with a list of ingredients must be provided with the recipe name, contestant name and phone number, at time of drop off.

Judging will start at 1:30 pm. There will be a minimum of three Judges

Criteria – Each pie will be judged on the following, out of 95 possible points i. Overall Appearance – points 1-20 ii. Crust – Color, Texture, Doneness, Flavor – points 1-20 iii. Filling – Consistency, Doneness, Moistness, Flavor – points 1-20 iv. Flavor – points 1-20 v. Creativity – points 1-15 e) Scoring i. Each judge assigns a numerical value in each criteria category, without consultation with the other judges. ii. The pie receiving the highest total numerical value is the winner. The Pie Contest Committee will tally the judging sheets. iii. In the case of a tie, the judges will judges those pies again. iv. The decision of the judges is final. a) Winners will be announced after the judging is complete at 2:30 pm on the center grounds. b) Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

By registering you acknowledge that the entered pies become the property of the Dr. Pound Farmstead and that you do not get your pie back. If you win you give your permission to have your photo taken during the announcement ceremony and have it used for Pie Contest and Festival promotional materials.

Quilt-Making Junior Division

The maker(s) of a quilt can enter their completed work by registering below and submitting the nonrefundable entry fee of $10 per quilt. Bring your Quilt to the contest site, at the museum, between 8:00 am and 9:00 am on May 11, 2019. At this time your quilt will be given an entry number, maintaining confidentiality of the makers.

This is a contest for fun. We will not be grading the quilting, we will be grading the design only. Minimum size: 36" x 36". All quilts must be quilted by hand, machine, or both. Quilting is defined as a running stitch that passes through top, middle layer (batting), and backing. The quilt must consist of 3 layers ( top, middle layer, and backing). Tied quilts are not eligible. Please also include a quilt sleeve if you can.

All decisions of the jurors and judges are final.

Best Use of Color

Best Original Design

Winners will be determined by ticket tally votes cast by the public. If you win you give your permission to have your photo taken during the announcement ceremony and have it used for Quilt Contest and Festival promotional materials. Quilters will receive their creations back and may be picked up at 4:30pm on May 11th, 2019.
